P.S. 41 November Parent Workshops

Reducing Anxiety
Wednesday, November 5th at 8:00am

If you are the caregiver of an anxious child, you know what it feels like to be held hostage. So does your child. Children who worry too much are held captive by their fears. They may go to great lengths to avoid what they experience as frightening situations, and may ask the same anxiety-based questions over and over again. Yet, answers we provide them to try to reassure them often provide no relief at all and the anxiety remains in control. In this workshop we will look at anxiety and how to manage it.

Helping Children Understand Their Feelings
Wednesday, November 19th at 8:00am

In this workshop we will teach you how to help your children deal with their feelings. Research has found that children who know how to handle their feelings get along better with family and friends, have more friends, have higher self-esteem, and are more persistent in getting things done. Our goal in dealing with feelings is to raise emotionally healthy, comfortable and cheerful children. We will look at how to help children cope with their feelings and express them in socially acceptable ways that don't harm others and that are appropriate to their age.

Beacon School Choir

We are excited to announce that PS41 will host the only New York City public school performance by the acclaimed Beacon School Choir.  The Choir is a group of 13-year-old boys from The Beacon School, located near Oxford, England.

The Chorus has performed in many venues worldwide and for such luminaries as Queen Elizabeth II of England herself! Their repertoire is extensive, ranging from contemporary songs to classical and traditional melodies.

There will only be one performance on Tuesday, 10/21/14.  All students in Grades 3-5 will be attending.
